Dear reader,
In the process of digital transformation, not only new services and products are being created, but also entire new economies. We are particularly keen on co-shaping these new economies in ways that benefit our partner countries. Our recently published impulse paper “Digitization as an innovation driver in development cooperation” shows that digitization efforts must not only be thought of in technological dimensions but also need to create space to analyze, develop and advance our use of digital innovations. To gain most of the opportunities that digital transformation provides, it is crucial to join forces with partners and create strong networks on a global level. In this spirit, we are delighted to announce, that as of August 2021 Germany has joined the Digital Public Good Alliance (DPGA). Collectively, we will provide and develop digital public goods, such as free and open source software, open data and artificial intelligence models. Dedicated to building digital administrations, our flagship-project “GovStack” will lead the respective Community of practice amongst the DPGA. This newsletter will provide you an outline of BMZ’s activities in partnering within the global digital ecosystem. With that being said, I wish you an interesting read.
